Sicily accommodations are second to none. Sicily is such a diverse experience for the traveler seeking adventure, history, culture and tradition. And there is nowhere like it for breathtaking scenery and great food. It offers centuries of history, including many multicultural societies from Greece, Africa, Spain, Arab influences, and Roman empires. Art, archeology, history, folklore, volcanoes-all are represented on Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea.
With all this to see and experience, there is a wide range of Sicily accommodations for the tourist to take advantage of-from 5-star hotels to independent villas and beach hotels.
A few of the 5-star hotels in Sicily include: Grand Hotel Villa San Mauro (which offers elegant, comfortable rooms with classical architecture combined with local handicrafts set in a spectacular site amount the hills of Caltagirone, as well as the restaurant "Borgo di Calatini" offering exquisite Sicilian cuisine); Eremo della Giubiliana in Ragusa (which is a historical site overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, from which the tourist can participate in any number of excursions to explore the island); or Grand Hotel Timeo (the premier hotel in Taormina, with exquisitely appointed rooms and which is surrounded by a 25,000 meter park of luscious woods and scenery, and which has a remarkable view of the famous Mount Etna, the sea and a Greek theatre across the way.) Of course, those are only a sampling of the 5-star hotels available in Sicily, and there are also many 4-star, 3-star and economical 2-star hotels as well.
Another great way for the tourist to achieve a travel experience in Sicily is by staying at one of the many bed-and-breakfast accommodations. There are many bed-and-breakfast situations available where the tourist can enjoy a beautiful stay at including Villa Bency (which is located near the coast close to the center of Capo D'Orlando), the Isoco Guest House in Taormina (which is surrounded by a large garden with a spectacular view of the Letojanni coast), or the Villa Chiarenza (an elegant 18th century villa in the Sicilian baroque style within easy trekking distance to Mount Etna).
Bed-and-breakfast accommodations offer beautiful comfortable rooms, a homey Sicilian atmosphere, great local food selections and often other luxuries such as stunning gardens, swimming pools, historical influences, excursion and guided tours. They are often the perfect choice for a visitor wanting to get the true Sicilian flavor of the island.
For a more private accommodation, an independent villa rental may be the right choice for a group of travelers. Villa rentals are also perfect for a more lengthy vacation, where the traveler can set themselves up for great Sicilian accommodation and be able cook for themselves, enjoy the warm Sicilian sun and the views of the sea. Villas can generally accommodate a larger group of people (from 4-8 or even more) for a more reasonable price than a single hotel might offer.
The tourist may also want to rent an apartment for their stay in Sicily. There are what are known as apartment hotels, where the tourist can get a mini-apartment, a one-room or studio apartment, or even 2 or 3 roomed apartments. Many are close to the beach and make excellent beach hotels. Le Plejadi Residence and Le Palme di Conurrana Residence are two examples of apartment accommodations in Sicily. Apartment accommodations are self-catering.
The tourist looking for a beach vacation will not find Sicily wanting. There are many beach hotels available that offer seaside locations for travelers to swim in the sea, as well as swimming pools for the ultimate sun-bathing experience. Sicily's warm sub-tropical climate is ideal for a beach vacation.
A couple of noted beach hotels in Siracusa include the 4-star La Rosa Sul Mare Hotel or the Hotel Caiammari (also a 4-star). There are also the Club Plais D'Himera Beach Hotel - Campolfelice di Roccella (4-star) or the Grand Hotel Baia Verde in Etna (4-star) to consider.
Whatever Sicily accommodations you choose, you will not be disappointed by your visit to this Mediterranean island. Sicily has so much to offer, be it the beautiful beaches, the fantastic scenery, the exciting volcanoes, or the adventurous nature trails. Plan to visit Sicily for your next vacation adventure!
I have loved Sicily for as far back as I can remember and I return to this island paradise every chance I get. My grandparents came to America from this beautiful land in the early 1900's, bringing with them all the tradition and passion that is Sicily. From the beautiful beaches and Roman architecture, to the heavenly food and romantic charm, I hope you will come to love Sicily as much as I do!
