By Kimberley Petyt

From the classic Technicolor dance scenes of An American in Paris to more recent films like Moulin Rouge and Amelie Poulain- for many Americans, Paris is the epitome of romance. And what could be a more romantic place to get married? For most couples, after deciding to get married in Paris, the first thing they do is make a giddy, "so crazy this just might work" phone call to their local French consulate, where they are instantly yanked backed down to earth by their first official French "Non": "Mais, mademoiselle! C'est impossible! You must live in France for 40 days before you can marry in France. Impossible! Why are you calling me? Au revoir!!" Click.... And for some couples, that will be that. In a flash they're swept directly to Plan B, their local country club with a Paris themed reception, do not pass Go, do not collect 200EUR...
Some couples, though, will want to see the dream through- they may choose to have a legal ceremony in their own country, and then come to Paris for a symbolic ceremony. Symbolic ceremonies aren't legally binding, but are as romantic and as meaningful as you'd imagine them to be.

Must See in Rome - The Catacombs

By Eric Simon

The ancient Roman underground burial cemeteries in Rome, Italy are known as the Catacombs. They are most famous for Catholic burials; however, pagan and Jewish burials were also included. Some are placed in different Catacombs or kept mixed. In the second century they were excavated as a result of the overcrowding because of the scarcity of land in Rome. The excavating continued until the first half of the fifth century. As the need to bury persecuted Christians secretly evolved during that time, this method of burial came into existence. This gave rise to catacombs. Since the burial was to be hidden and secretly done, Romans chose their knowledge of geology and came to know that the volcanic rock was a soft Tufo under Rome, and was perfect for tunneling and hence the secret burials. It is less compact when exposed first time to the air and then hardens afterwards. Some of them have kilometers of tunnels, and some have even four stories of tunnels. As per the Christian community they opted to be together even in the "Sleep of death", because they felt a real community sense.

After "How can we get married on the Eiffel Tower", I would have to say, as an American wedding planner in Paris, my second most requested Parisian wedding inquiry by American brides is "We want to get married at Notre Dame Cathedral". Unfortunately, unless you have friends or relatives in some extremely high places, it is next to impossible to marry in Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. In fact, for a foreigner, it isn't exactly a cakewalk to get married in any church in France. One of the biggest things to keep in mind is that before any Catholic church in France will even consider marrying you, you must first have a civil ceremony either in France or in your home country. Once that is sorted out, you should then put on your Sunday's best, and get thee to the church in question for a little face-time.

Pompeii026Image by Royal Olive via Flickr By: Levi Reiss

Pompeii and the neighboring city of Herculaneum are truly unique open-air museums. On August 24, 79 A. D. Mount Vesuvius destroyed these two cities within a period of some twelve hours. Thousands of people were killed but the buildings were only slightly damaged. Pompeii is a major tourist attraction and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you can see in extraordinary detail the way people lived at the height of the Roman Empire. You might wish to purchase a three-day ticket that allows you to visit five archeological sites: Herculaneum, Pompeii, Oplontis, Stabiae, and Boscoreale. Among the sites to see in Pompeii are the Foro (Forum) once the town's center, the Macellum, a covered meat and fish market, the Basilica, the court of law and economic center, the Anfiteatro (Amphitheater), the baths, and perhaps the brothels. Don't bring the kids to visit the Villa dei Misteri (Villa of the Mysteries). For your convenience we have listed neighborhood hotels in approximate order of cost, starting with the least expensive.

It is home to two landmark attractions: Eiffel Tower and Louvre Museum as well as a dozen more of equally impressive structures and sights that you should really see at least once in your life.
If you're privileged to visit this city but you only have one day, do not fret. You can still make the most of it by planning your itinerary well. One good way to maximize your trip is to make use of the Paris Metro. The train system of the city is very efficient that you can get from one place to another within a few minutes. Download a map of the train and study it very well before you trip.
Aside from Eiffel Tower and Louvre Museum, you can see other attractions like Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe, and Centre Pompidou, among many others. Don't forget to plan your meals as well. With so many sights to see in one day, you might choose to ignore your growling stomach. Don't. You need to eat so you'll have the energy to walk around.

Veneto Wine

A bottle of the Italian wine Amarone from the ...Image via WikipediaEverybody knows that wine is one of the most appreciated Italian products abroad. You might also know that Veneto is one of the Italian regions where the wine culture is deeper-rooted. Form Prosecco to Amarone, many wines were born in this region, have then arrived to all the other Italian regions and went over the Italian borders to tickle the palates all over the world. Certainly there is a deep relation between wine and Veneto, a relation that does not only come from the numberless wineries that fill the region, but also from the peasant culture of the region, which seems to have penetrated into the collective memory of all the inhabitants of the region. For the inhabitants of Veneto drinking an ombra (meaning shadow this is how a glass of wine is called in Veneto) in someones company in a typical tavern or at some friends means sharing a part of their culture and habits with other people.
