Capri is a small Italian town that is situated about 5 kilometers away from the mainland Italy. This island town has a number of resorts and is frequented by 2 million tourists from all over the world annually.
Reaching Capri
There is no international airport on the island and the only way to reach this town is through the boat. There are a number of boats which operate from port of Ischia and Naples. Besides this, there are a number of luxury Capritime boats which offer you water taxi services from Naples to this island.
Attractions in Capri
Some of the places of interest in Capri include
a. Blue Grotto: This is a small cave that is situated at the water edge with a tiny opening to the sea and this opening closes during the high tide. This cave is situated along the western coast of the island. The cave offers you breathtaking views which would make your trip memorable.
b. Monte Solaro: This is the highest point of Capri and offers you some of the best view of the surrounding areas.
c. Capri is known for its beaches and coastal areas. There are a number of activities such as kayaking, trekking and other water sports which you can enjoy here.
d. Villa Jovis: This is a palace that belonged to Emperor Tiberius. This palace was built during the 15th century and is one of the best example of Roman and Gothic style of architecture. There are a number of other attractions such as Church of Santa Maria del Soccorso and Cave of Tiberius that are situated in close proximity to the villa and you should also visit them.
e. Villa San Michele: This villa was built during the late 20th century and was made by Axel Munthe. The villa is situated in Anacapri and provides you spectacular views of the island, Sorrentine Peninsula and surrounding areas.
f. Church of San Michele Arcangelo: This is another prime attraction which one must visit. This church is also situated in Anacapri and has a number of paintings which are made on the walls and ceilings. There are wooden planks on all the sides on which you have to take a walk as per tradition. There is a tile floor in the church which has a mosaic depicting the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Paradise. This mosaic was believed to be made by Leonardo Da Vinci.
