Bringing Back Gifts From Paris

Author: Phil Chavanne

Honey, we are going to Paris!
Ah, the joys of preparing for the occasion...
The pleasure of diving into your favorite travel guides (I suggest visiting website Paris-Eiffel-Tower-News.com) to plan out your everyday itinerary... The sheer excitement of stuffing a large suitcase with the entire appropriate garb...
But hold on! Have you thought of leaving enough room in your luggage to bring a few gifts back home?
Bringing back cool gifts. A major important task on your To-Do-When-I'm-There list. Yes, yes, yes. But where will you find nicely original (and attractively inexpensive) stuff?
Well, search no more, I did it for you.

In Woody Allen's judgement, "As long as you haven't been kissed during any of those rainy Parisian afternoons, you haven't been kissed at all." A long-time dweller of the French capital, I'd have a hard time not to agree with the most Parisian New Yorker. Introduction:

Paris is a world centre for gastronomy and you'll be spoilt for choice in good restaurants around the city.

Obviously, in a city of Paris's size cuisine from all over the world is on offer but French food dominates menus throughout the city. Traditional French fare revolves around fine fresh ingredients served up in delicate sauces - the greatest element in French cuisine. The areas in the centre with the best choices include the streets north of the Louvre, especially around the Palais Royal and the Rue St-Honore, and the Marais. On the Rive Gauche, St-Germain-des-Pres has the most chic selection while the Latin Quarter boasts a good range. Bute aux Cailles (13e) has a predominance of food from the Southwest of France, while Rue de la Gaiete (14e) and Mouffetard (5e) are both good areas for traditional cuisine.
