To plan The Budget Madrid weekend, you have come to the right place. Madrid can be a bit costly as it is a hot tourist spot. It is the Mecca of Spain's football fans. It is also one of the best tourist destinations. The weather is excellent throughout the year. All these aspects make it one costly city for the tourists. However, your money can work for you well if you know where to look for.
Before you jumpstart, make a list of things where you can cut down your expenses. That should include flight tickets, transport, accommodation, sightseeing tours and quality nightlife at cheap rates.
Flight
Go in for the no frills airlines to cut down on the travel cost. Some of the good flights from the UK are Ibera, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Easyjet and British Airways. These offer direct flights. There are flights that go via other Spanish cities before arriving here. It might be time consuming. Search for options of cities from which you get a direct cheap flight, rather than only searching for an option from your city.

Accommodation
Accommodation is crucial as it can be very difficult to get with the all the round year fiestas. Book your place of stay at least a month in advance and this is just the maximum time lag you can give. Best would be to book 2 or 3 months in advance to get the best rates and best place.
Serviced apartments are best if you do not mind sacrificing the creature comfort. Apartments are also great for huge groups of tourists, as in stag and hen groups. Hotels are a better option if you are looking for a cosy place to crash in and stay. However, if you are there for sightseeing, paying that large a sum for hotels is a criminal waste.
Transport Use the Tourist Travel Pass to travel. You can buy this online. The metro system is well connected. You can take the relevant train that is nearest to your place of accommodation. For the short distance, you can take the taxi. Talk to the tourist information centers regarding the correct fares and tips to avoid being ripped off by the taxis. If your place of accommodation offers a ride from the airport, compare the prices to see if it is worth paying the extra money for the ride. The usual taxi rates are € 20 - € 25. You can also hire cars.
Sightseeing tours
Buy the Madrid card from tourist information centers to get access to theme parks, historical buildings, tours and museums. You can get 1, 2 or 3-day pass for €48, €61 and €75, respectively. Use credit card only. No cash is accepted.
If you stick to this budget, you would spent just over € 400 for your Madrid weekend, excluding shopping
