There are different type of beaches in Sicily, the oriental coast in characterized by Reefs and sable beaches, the south coast is full undiscovered by the mass tourism and the north-west coasts are little more crowded and well known for sport and summer events.
Beach n° 1 - Mondello
Mondello is one of the well known summer place of Sicily, it's close to Palermo the capital of Sicily. On the beach there is an ancient fishermen village famous for its sport events. It's full of good, restaurants and bars.
Beach n° 2 - Taormina
Called the "Pearl of the Mediterranean", the Taormina's beach (Mazzarò), is the best summer resort of the south of Italy. Here there are beautiful sea caves (Grotta Azurra) and marine oasis like the "Isola Bella", a little island linked to the land by a little sand strip.
Beach n° 3 - San Vito lo Capo
This beach is placed in the western coast of Sicily near the city of Trapani. The beach is connected with a natural reserve called "The Zingaro". It's a famous place thanks to the presence of "Tonnare" (structures used to transform the fish tuna).
Beach n° 4 - The Island of Currents
Places at the end of Europe, this island is a little treasure. It's a small rocks island, very similar to the African coast. It's the latest piece of land of Europe before the Africa. (Consider that the city of Tunisi is at its north side)
Beach n° 5 - The oasis of Vendicari
Near Syracuse, eastern part of the Sicily island, this beach is a natural paradise between the cities of Noto and Scicli(Sites protected by the UNESCO patrimony for their baroque art buildings and churches). Here it's possible to visit turtles that deposit eggs and a lot of migratory birds.
Beach n° 6 - Beaches near the city of Catania
In the oriental coast there are 3 different types of Beach: Sable, Reef and the volcanic reef of Acicastello and Acitrezza.
Beach n° 7 - Beaches of Ragusa
In the city of Ragusa there are 4 sable beaches with limpid waters: Marina di Ragusa, Marina di Modica, Pozzallo and Sampieri.
Beach n° 8 - Capo D'Orlando
The coast near Messina, in the north of Sicily, is characterized by the presence reefs. The most important one is the beach of Saint Gregorio, in front of the Aeolian Islands.
Beach n° 9 - Cefalù
Cefalu is a little village between Palermo and Capo D' Orlando (Messina). Here there are sable beaches for approximately 1,5 miles. It's advised for the windsurf and other summer sports lovers. There are a lot of fishermen and the historical centers where do wonderful boat tour along the coast.
To have a nice summer holiday follow these simple rules...
*The best periods are the months of June and September. August and July are crowded
*In some beaches it's possible to pay for 10€ for entrance and cabin.
*Many beaches have their bars and restaurants (a bit expensive but good)
*Parking cost is 2€ a day
*The safeguard is available from 8:00 AM to 18:30 PM
*Don't swim over 200 meters from the coast
*“Topless” is allowed only in some beaches
*The Italian coast guard number is 117
*The red flag on the beach means danger cause bad conditions of weather
