Train travel not only provides a better level of safety and comfort but also adds to the traveler's experience. The insight it gives into the culture of a country or locality, and the passing vistas are totally distinct and memorable. The appeal of train travel is not just about the enchanting blur of the passing landscape but also about a lot of other advantages, a few of which are briefed below.

When compared to bus travel or air travel, train travel is more convenient as passengers have enough room to sit or recline, especially during lengthy journeys. A railway itinerary allows passengers to experience the destination in a way that is not possible from air travel. Travelers need not worry about jet lags, and weather-related delays are rare. Having a meal, strolling around or simply conversing with fellow passengers can make the trip enjoyable.

Cost-effectiveness is a major advantage of train travel. Backpackers find it the most economical means of travel, particularly because of the friendly ticket options. Rail passes and unlimited tickets are a boon to regular travellers, as they can avail significant savings on ticket prices.

After travel, our next greatest passion in life is enjoying good food, and so our recent trips to Italy left us with not only wonderful memories, new travel ideas, and great holiday snaps, but it also left us with a whole lot more than an inch to pinch!
A country passionate about everything from the way they speak to each other (hands and all!), the way they dress (don't forget the sunglasses!), and the way they cook, the Italians certainly know how to live life to its fullest, and their Mediterranean style of cooking tickles the taste buds in all the right places.
From teeny tiny espresso's and sweet treats for breakfast, to pizza lunches, and pasta and salad evening menus, they really know how to create a delicious meal from simple ingredients, and that's before you even get started on the gelato!

In Italy, the region of Liguria is famous for its long and beautiful seacoast, and for two of the country's best-loved foods. It is also a wonderful place for walking.
There are miles of great footpaths taking you all over the wooded hills of this largely rural region. The views are terrific, and you can spend your day in beautiful countryside while never being far from a village and a little bar or restaurant.
Let's deal with the food first. Liguria is the home of pesto sauce, which is now appreciated all over the world. The capital Genoa, or Genova in Italian, gave its name to the dish 'spaghetti alla Genovese', which is a mix of spaghetti, diced potatoes, and French beans in a pesto sauce topped with a sprinkling of parmesan cheese. Liguria is also home to the bread called 'focaccia' which you can buy elsewhere in Italy, and even abroad, but which never tastes as good as it does in the region.

Top 10 of the Best New Year Travel Resolutions for 2012

English: Travellers on Churston Common, June 2...Image via Wikipedia

Author: louiselanjaron

The New Year is approaching and we will all be thinking of our 2012 holiday destinations. The New Year resolution traditions stretch all over the globe. Here are a few suggestions for travelers wanting to make a difference this coming year.

Travellers resolution 1 - Leave no trace

An important one for not only the countries we visit but also for nature and to respect the environment. It is important we leave nature as we find it. Take all litter with us and not to chuck it onto the ground in beach, mountain, forests and water areas. To be careful when in hot climates not to start fires, especially through the summer months.

Travellers resolution 2 - Reduce water consumption

Many of the countries we visit are warm climates that see little or no rain for months. It is important to remember that although we are on holiday the locals that live there need water supply all year round so if we are careful with the water we are helping the natives water supply. Try shorter showers and don't leave the tap running when brushing your teeth.

Travellers resolution 3 - Not to over pack

Many of us feel the need to pack our suitcases to the brim. Nothing is worse than having to lug around a heavy suitcase. Try packing sensibly and keep your luggage to a minimum. When traveling to hot countries there should be much less weight as you will only be needing your shorts, t-shirts and flip flops. Also try buy your shampoos, gels and liquids from local supermarkets once in your destination country.

By Brian W. Thacker

Many Americans dream to travel the world when they retire. They have worked all their lives and they feel as though they deserve it, and they do. Americans over 65 are all eligible for Medicare for their medical insurance. Medicare is great because it costs less and has better benefits than many plans for individuals and families under 65 years old. Most people do not realize that there are limitations to Medicare and they will need to consider alternatives when Medicare does not cover certain things.

Visit Sardinia

By Marcus Smith

The island of Sardinia is a very popular travel destination with both Italians from the mainland and with visitors from across Europe.
It is situated east of Italy, in the Mediterranean Sea, just a few kilometres south of the French island of Corsica. The climate is quite hot in the summer, mild but rarely cold in the winter, making it a popular destination all year round.
Sardinia is a destination with two facets: the popular, well known, side to the island focusing on beaches, harbours and Italian sophistication; and the less known interior of the island where quiet hill villages that have been little affected by tourism carry on life much as they have for several centuries.

I Love Touring Italy - Springtime In Sicily

ModicaImage via Wikipedia

Author: Levi Reiss

The island of Sicily lies to the southwest of southern Italy in the Mediterranean Sea. You may be surprised by the weather here, especially in early March. Don't expect to sip a coffee in a terrace by the seaside in the early spring. But by late March the wildflowers will be in bloom. By mid-May a beach outing is a real possibility. And it's strawberry season before the month is out.
The city of Modica, population about 55 thousand, on the southern coast has been named a UNESCO Heritage site along with its surroundings. Modica claims to have Italy's best chocolate since it was introduced by the Spanish conquistadors in the 1500s. On March 19 a bonfire burns all night long in front of the church of its patron saint, Saint George. On the 23rd of the month the city of Vittoria, population 60 thousand, situated near the southwestern coast presents the Feast of the Foundation, an exhibition of local wines. Two days later the city of Patti, population about 30 thousand, hosts the Annunziata's feast with a parade of little children dressed like angels and covered in gold. The last Friday of March the town of San Marco d'Alunzio, population 2 thousand, about 75 miles (120 kilometers) east of Palermo in northern Sicily celebrates the Festa della Crocifisso. A solemn procession of thirty three hooded worshippers called Babaluti carry a Crucifix.

Cooking Pots For Giants in Northern Italy

By Marcus Smith

Many visitors to northern Italy visit the region of Lombardy, and particularly the lakes. The best known of these lakes is called lake Como, and is usually explored from the town of Como itself. The lake is extensive, and in a lovely setting surrounded by mountains. All leisure activities are close to hand, both hiking and cycling in the surrounding area and water-based activities on the lake itself.
During your visit we suggest you take a trip about 30 kilometers to the north to visit the region around the small town of Chiavenna. Less well known than the main lake resorts, it has an interesting old town to discover and there are several fascinating and impressive natural highlights to discover nearby.
