Must See Sights in Spectacular Tuscany

English: Leaning Tower of Pisa, Italy. The lea...

By []Giovanni Balboni
Tuscany is an area of Italy situated along the upper 'shin' of the leg-shaped country itself. The region is large enough to offer both inland and coastal sites to visit - providing a snapshot of the best of Tuscany. Villas are available to book virtually everywhere you look, so you are bound to find just the right setting for your own personal holiday story.

In deciding the main highlights of the region, the choice is virtually endless in Tuscany: villas that will take your breath away, historical attractions, artistic treasures and spectacular countryside. Let's explore, shall we?

Piazza del Campo

This is possibly one of the most famous squares in all of Tuscany. Villas located in or near the delightful city of Siena will put you within easy access of this site. If you are familiar with the horse race called the Palio di Siena, you will know that the Piazza del Campo is the very square in which this race occurs twice every year. There are many cafes dotted around the edges, enabling you to sit, drink coffee and take in the atmosphere the rest of the time.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa

More properly called the Tower of Pisa, it gained the name the Leaning Tower of Pisa after the constructors failed to provide proper foundations for it on one side when they were building it. However, that tilt has given it a greater degree of fame than it may have had otherwise. Interestingly, and unsurprisingly, there are two staircases heading up to the top, one of which has two fewer steps to allow for the tilting building. One can feel fairly secure it will never fall - it has been stabilised on different occasions to halt the sinking and is now considered sound.

The Guinigi Tower

The most fascinating part of the Guinigi Tower in the delightful walled city of Lucca has to be the hanging garden on the very top. You can go all the way to the top of the tower, peering out of occasional windows as you go, and eventually arriving at the top to enjoy the delights - and the shade - afforded by the garden itself. It may be an odd sight as you look from below, but the view from the top makes you forget the effort it takes to ascend to this verdant oasis.

There are countless other notable sights to be found in Tuscany. Villas provide you with a comfortable and convenient base so you can take your time to explore as many of them as possible - at your leisure.
