Just as you plan your itinerary on holiday, so should you plan to take care of your hair and skin, so here are some helpful travel beauty tips for when you next jet off on your next trip, be it for business or pleasure!

Moisturise Before You Fly

Keep your skin hydrated - the night before you fly, apply a heavier-than-normal moisturiser and apply again in the morning. This will help your skin combat the dehydrating effects of being in the cabin, leaving you more 'fresh faced' when you disembark.

Forget the Foundation

If you can, be prepared to ditch your usual foundation and instead just travel wearing moisturiser. Trying to wear sunscreen and foundation isn't easy. If you don't like going without foundation, one option is to take your make-up off just before you board, putting on your moisturiser, and then reapplying once you've landed if you really can't travel without a full face. Alternatively, consider a tinted moisturiser.

Blotting Paper

If you're going somewhere hot then you will be applying suntan lotion to your face. This can sometimes make even usually normal skin become greasy and oily. So travel with some facial blotting papers and gently dab your T-bar area to lift off the oil and eliminate blocked pores.

Luscious Lashes

Thick, black, luscious lashes make you look and feel amazing regardless of make-up. So wave goodbye to mascara and have individual lashes applied at a salon before you go so you look a million dollars by the pool. You'll never have to worry about mascara running down your face either.

Leave In Conditioner

If possible, use a leave-in conditioner in your hair during the day time when you're out in the hot sun, it will protect your hair from drying out and becoming brittle.

Drink Water

In hot climates you need to stay hydrated so be sure to drink plenty of water throughout your travels - whilst flying, on the beach all day and also in the evening too.

Sore, Tired Feet

To help you recover from sore and tired feet, lay down against a wall and lift your legs right up into the air, placing your bottom flush with the wall. You'll be amazed at the near instant effect this has on reviving sore and tired feet.

The Douro Valley of northwest Portugal is quite famous for its Port wine. Today's wine is not a Port, but it is made from typical Port grapes such as Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional. While this wine isn't organic, its producer has developed an Environment Management System, which it sees as a contribution towards sustainable development and the preservation of natural resources. By the way, Charamba is a Nineteenth Century Portuguese dance.

Let's start by quoting the marketing materials. Tasting Note: Deep purple color with ruby highlights; aromas of plum, black currant, and spice; dry, medium to full-bodied, crisp acidity, with flavors of spice, earth, and red currant. Serving Suggestion: Serve with spareribs. And now for my review.
At the first sips the wine started thin but was quite long. It pleasantly tasted of oak. Its first pairing was with home made chicken "nuggets" with Mediterranean spices to which I added an orange slightly sweet, slightly spicy Thai dipping sauce. With the sauced chicken the wine was powerful with a pleasant taste of oak. It was round and lightly tannic. The wine balanced nicely with the accompanying potatoes roasted in chicken fat. There was also an overly spicy salsa with tomatoes, onions, green peppers, and cilantro that weakened the Douro somewhat.
The next meal involved a boxed eggplant parmigiana that I slathered in grated Parmesan cheese. The wine presented the right combination of acid and tannins. There were plums and caramel.
My final meal was composed of barbecued beef ribs in a sweet ketchup-based sauce. This wine was quite powerful and tasted oaky with some tobacco. The accompaniments were the same as in the initial pairing. When it met the potatoes the wine retained its power and washed the grease away. Once again the salsa weakened the wine, but only marginally.
I ended the bottle with two local cheeses. When paired with a relatively tasteless brick cheese, the wine provided some black cherries and cinnamon. It was pleasant but not powerful. When paired with a tastier Swiss cheese, the wine was somewhat acidic with black cherries but it was weakened.
Final verdict. Not bad for a bargain wine. I would buy it again. In fact, you may be lucky enough to find it for considerably less.

The Best Rome Department Stores

Beautiful Art Nouveau buildings for Printemps, Galleries Lafayette, and La Semaritaine replaced the passages that were the city's first indoor shopping arcades.
Visitors to Rome expecting to find departments stores in a league with those or Harrods in London may be a little disappointed. Since much of the city was laid out in ancient times, buildings, including the Rome department stores, are much smaller. But what they lack in size, they make up for in convenience - most are open every day until 9PM. If you're looking for a huge store with dozens of departments, those are mostly found on the ring road that encircles the city.
Many of the stores in the historic heart of the city are near fashionable Via Condotti. So if you don't find what you're looking for, you can head for the haute couture boutiques, such as Dolce & Gabbano or Versace.

The premier Italian department store, La Rinascente first opened in Milan in 1865. A pair of brothers began making men's clothes there and opened their first Rome store on Via del Corso in an old palazzo. The international Zara chain recently purchased La Rinascente and opened Rome locations in Galleria Alberto Sordi and suburban Piazza Fiume.

Both stores carry all the top Italian and international brands, including Armani Collezione, Burberry, Marc Jacobs, 7 for all Mankind, and Guess. For something stylish but more affordable, look for La Rinascente's own Ellerre brand. The perfume, cosmetics, and different fashion departments are set up like individual boutiques within the store. Clothing for men, women, and children are all gorgeous.

The Piazza Fiume location is a little off the beaten path, but if has beautiful housewares.

Coin doesn't quite have the cache of La Rinascente, but it's also a little less expensive. If you like brands like DKNY, Calvin Klein, Esprit, and Lacoste, you'll find them here, as well as good clothes for kids and nice things for the home. The main store is near the Vatican on Piazzale Appio. And with a Milan hair salon, restaurant, and bar, it's pretty full service.

The U.S. equivalent to Kohl's or Target, Oviesse has inexpensive accessories, cosmetics, and clothes that appeal to a younger crowd. So if you're traveling with teenagers, this should be on your list. Some of their store are also called OVS Industry or OVS. If you're shopping for a baby, Fiorucci designs for their Baby Angels boutiques. They're located all over Rome, so chances are there's one convenient to your hotel.

Unico Presso Italiano Milano (UPIM) was founded in 1928 in the town of Cremona. La Rinascente owned the chain until they sold them to Coin in early 2010. UPIM competes directly with H&M and they have their own fashion lines for kids, men, and women. Their BLUKIDS line is especially cute and well priced. This is a great place to come if you're looking for stylish things for the home too. They're on Via del Tritone not far from Palazzo Barberini.

There was a time in the history of Venice when Venetians wore masks almost all year round, and not just for special occasions. They were a part of everyday life and became really popular when they started appearing at the Carnival of Venice in 1268. They were so popular with people from all walks of life because they allowed the wearer to hide their identity and to mingle with people from other classes of society without being known or found out.
The mask-makers, called mascherari, held a very important place in society and were highly skilled at the art of mask making. There was even a mask-makers statute dated 10 April 1436 in recognition of the industry, but after several hundred years of Venetian Masks being very much a part of the culture of Venice, the Senate decreed that mask wearing would be severely restricted. They believed there was a rise in mask wearing for illicit and illegal activities and with the culprit being masked it was very difficult to identify them.
Masks became a thing of children's parties until the Venice Carnival was re-launched in 1979 and suddenly their popularity shot up once again. During the Carnival of Venice you'll see many of the locals and tourists in Venice wearing Venetian masks of all different kinds, but you can buy these often exquisite works of art at any time of the year from numerous shops in Venice.

Authentic handmade Venetian Masks have been very carefully made with great skill and attention to detail so these masks come with a high price tag. But if you're looking for a mask that you would proudly hang on your wall or display on your sideboard the authentic Venetian Masks are what you should be buying.If you're looking more for a souvenir of your visit to Venice, or you want something affordable to wear at the Venice Carnival you can buy cheaper imitations in the majority of tourist oriented shops in Venice. Different Types of Venetian Masks
There are several different kinds of Venetian Masks, some of which are more popular than others, and some are more beautiful than others. Bauta Masks are beautifully decorated in comparison and are usually the most common mask that you'll see being worn at the Carnival of Venice, plus the most popular to buy as souvenirs. They usually cover the whole face, whereas a Columbine Mask covers just half of the face.
How to Make a Venetian Mask
If you're visiting the Venice Carnival and want to make your own mask this is possible! The most common way of making it is with paper-mache though this can be messy and time consuming. Another popular alternative is to buy a plain mask in your home country and then decorate it with feathers, beads, crystals and glitter for example, creating your own unique and personalised mask that you can bring with you to Venice for the Carnival!

With so much to see and do in Rome, shopping is usually one of the activities that gets left till last. But what a lot of people don't realize is that a great place to really soak up Italian culture is at its markets and shopping areas. Here are a few of the best places to really get to immerse yourself in Italian Culture. Opening hours vary by the type of store. Most shops are open from 9 -9:30 until 1pm and reopen from 4 pm to 7:30 pm.



Some clothes shops are closed on a Sunday and maybe even a Monday depending on where the store is, and bakeries and other small food places are usually open from 8 am to 1 pm then reopen from 5 pm to 7:30 pm. They are usually closed on Thursday afternoons and Sundays in the winter months and on Saturday afternoons and Sundays during the summer months.

Via Condotti is one of the most central shopping areas and is the most typical of the old Roman streets. Know as Rome's version of 5th Avenue, many of the Top end brands are here, such as Armani, Prada, Gucci, Ferragamo, and, Cartier. Nearby Via del Corso has the more affordable selection of clothes and accessories. there are a number of megastores that sell everything you could need, from leather goods to athletic wear and casual clothing.

If the weather's not too good and you want to spend a few hours warming up in a shopping center, visit Euroma2. There are over 230 shops and places to eat housed in a massive structure, surmounted by domes Arabian, a few hundred meters from the GRA. Take Metro B line from Termini to EUR Palasport station, cross over the road and take the free 15min bus to the and from the shopping center.

If you are looking to find some small and unique shops, head to the historic centre. There are lots of small roads and piazzas, all interconnected, that can make it fun to wander the streets and find something new round each corner. There are too many places here to mention and everybody's trip to the area is different. A great way to spend a warm summer's afternoon.
