London, as England's capital city, has so much heritage and culture on offer it is not surprising that it is home to some of the best conference and dining venues in the country. From the huge and grand to the small and cosy, there will be something on offer that suits you. However, London is also home to a wide selection of venues that cannot be found anywhere else, to venues that have historical significance, a unique-selling point or are just something fresh and different. Here are a selection of 10 unique venues for those looking for a more unusual venue or for those who simply like to peruse and imagine what kind of event they would hold.

The Royal College of Physicians

The Royal College of Physicians is England's oldest medical foundation and is well known for its high standards of medical practice. However, a lesser known facet of the College is its conference and dining facilities. The building itself is in the modernist style but the rooms on offer vary in dcor and style. The Censors' Room features a much more classic style with wood panelling while the Council Chamber is a modern circular hall with an impressive ceiling. The decoration is not the only draw, the College also has a collection of artefacts, portraits and manuscripts on display throughout the building making it a stand out venue. Events can also be held in the Medicinal Garden which is home to over 1,300 plants from the history of medicine.

30 St Mary Axe - 'The Gherkin'

30 St Mary Axe is a skyscraper in the financial district of London that has been nicknamed 'the Gherkin' by Londoners in a reference to the building's distinctive shape. The Gherkin is 180 metres tall, was opened in 2004 and has since won a number of awards for architecture. For those that want a spectacular view the Gherkin is the right choice. Searcys Restaurant and Bar covers the top floor of the building and offers fantastic 360 degree views of the London skyline. The venue is only available to members and tenants during the day but is available for hire in the evenings and at the weekends.

The Roof Gardens, Kensington

The name of this venue is not just a misleading misnomer, the venue is actually comprised of a roof garden that covers 6,000 square metres on top of the former Derry and Toms building in Kensington. The gardens are Grade II listed and are divided into three themed gardens; Spanish, Tudor and English Woodland. There are not just a vast variety of plants to see but the Gardens are home to fish and wildlife, including four resident flamingos. The Roof Gardens are open to the public but can be hired out for private events in the daytime or the evening all week excluding Saturdays which are only available during the day.

 Ladure

Ladure are a French patisserie company that specialise in making luxury cakes and pastries and are famous for their macarons. The Ladure premises in Covent Garden are designed to look like a vintage Parisian tea house and are available for private hire. This venue is the perfect choice for those with a sweet tooth and a love for pastels, but savoury items are also available.

IceBar

If you are looking for somewhere cool for your event, look no further than the ICEBAR. The very unique selling point of this venue is the fact that everything is made from Swedish Torne River ice. The bar is kept at -5 degrees Celsius and everything, from the glasses to the tables and the bar itself, are made from ice. Sessions in the ICEBAR last for forty minutes and each guest is given a designer cape and gloves. The venue is completely redesigned with a new theme every year. The venue also hires out heated, and less icy, dining rooms and lounges.

The Folly

The Folly is an aesthetically unique venue that brings a feeling of the outdoors to London. It describes itself as London's secret garden and has a six foot Norwegian tree trunk as a focal point. The Folly offers food and drinks but also has flower arranging classes in its flower shop and butchery classes in its deli. The Folly has a distinctive bar styled like a beehive and is decorated with a variety of plants and flowers.

Tower of London

For those looking for something different for their event or party the Tower of London may be the perfect choice. Although hundreds of years ago the Tower was a place that many people feared to go, now it is a historically fascinating and wholly unique venue. The Tower has six function rooms available for hire, these include the Martin Tower - home of the Crown Jewels - and the New Armouries. As well as having an exciting place setting for events, you can also choose to have a private viewing of the Crown Jewels or a Yeoman Warder tour as an extra.

The Cutty Sark

The Cutty Sark is probably one of the most famous, and sole surviving, clipper ships in Britain. It was built in 1869 and was used in the tea trade. The ship was badly damaged by fire in 2007 and has only recently reopened to the public after a huge restoration project. The ship has been suspended from the ground, allowing visitors and guests to walk around the ship and get the full effect of its brass hull. The huge space around the ship can be hired out for events, but spaces on board the ship, the Tween Deck and the Master's Saloon, are also available for smaller parties and events.

The UK is one of the most popular destinations for the world's tourists and within this small island are many great towns and cities that prove massively enriching for all those who travel here.

We cover here the top five most popular cities with tourists and at number one there is no real surprise.

England's capital city, London, is the most visited by a great distance. It is in fact one of the world's most popular places with tourists, not least because of the huge and diverse mix of culture, history and entertainment on display. It is a world leader in the arts and has an abundance of different destinations. One cannot begin to list the various places as they are simply too vast.

London offers tourists so much from markets to green parks, classical architecture, modern bars and clubs and so much more. Holding nearly 8 million people, the capital is a rich tapestry of different cultures and will appeal to all who travel there. It is a wealthy place, a friendly place and somewhere where there is always something new to explore and do.

Number two in the list is the capital of Scotland: Edinburgh. An ancient and fascinating city, Edinburgh is now truly cosmopolitan and encompasses everything a great city should have. From its beautiful castle to the world famous comedy festival, Edinburgh has an atmosphere all of its own. The people who live there are famously friendly and the street parties they hold are the stuff of legend. Being a university city, Edinburgh is always lively and buzzing with a toxic energy.

Third most popular with tourists on the list is Manchester. Again, it classically juxtaposes the old with the contemporary and this makes it fascinating for any visitor. With stunning architecture, great shops, libraries and theatres, Manchester is a truly global city. Manchester has seen a great deal of restructuring since the mid 1990's and as such, is a place that feels current and exciting. Tourists are spoilt for choice, and given its far more compact size to London; it doesn't feel as overwhelming to the visitor.

Often cited as Britain's second city, Birmingham is the fourth most popular tourist destination. It is a truly multi-ethnic city and boasts numerous world class arts centres and top of the range shopping facilities. Birmingham is rich with music and fun and appeals to all age groups.

The fifth most popular city is Glasgow, Scotland's largest. The former European Capital of Culture, Glasgow is a place of awesome beauty, and contains so much to see and do. Noted for its music scene, clubs and comedy, Glasgow will always be a great place to visit. http://www.efaa.co.uk/ http://www.efaa.co.uk/locat.html

A secret place in London doesn't mean it is not to be seen, it just means that it is located in a hidden part of London waiting to be uncovered. Here are few secret places in London:

Fitzroy House:

The Fitzroy House is located in Fitzroy Street, London and this 1791 building is now a museum that exhibits works and life of L.Ron Hubbard. He is not only a famous scientologist, but also an author and a person who is passionate about photography and many other activities. The first floor of Fitzroy House exhibits the early life of this 'Guinness Book of World Records' title holder. You can find rare collections of books and original manuscripts in Fitzroy House and the second floor holds an invaluable collection of literary works by L.Ron Hubbard.

How do British and Irish celebrate their Easter?

Author: Adam Simonds
Often it is found that Easter in England and Ireland is celebrated in private parties and family gathering. During the hay days of Christianity, Easter was known as Pascha and the word derived from the Hebrew term Passover. Later on during the Anglo Saxon era the same celebration got a new name "Easter"; and this time it came from Eostre, the Anglo Saxon goddess of fertility during springtime.

Planning a Visit to London
By Roo Sadegi

London may be one of the greatest travel destinations in the world. There are so many interesting and beautiful attractions in London related to its long and fascinating history. Included in the long list of things that make this city great for tourism is its culture, the museums and galleries, many great shopping opportunities, the huge variety of restaurants and pubs, and the number of 5-star hotels in London.
London is a huge city that is divided into two main centres. The western portion is near the River Thames, the Houses of Parliament, and Buckingham Palace. The City of London is to the east. The city's best known and most popular sights are in the area between these two main centres as are London's most bustling entertainment districts, Knightsbridge and Soho.
Getting around London and sightseeing can be easy by using the underground train system called the Tube or on one of their famous red open top buses. However, so many of London's major sights are close enough together that you can walk between them, for instance Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament.

It is highly recommended that you purchase your tickets online as the queues for the ticket booth may get long.

Visiting London Landmarks - Tips for Getting the Most From a One Day Trip to London

The Clock Tower of the Palace of Westminster, ...Image via Wikipedia
By James Riches
If you are only in London for one day, you may be wondering how to make best use of the time. London, of course, is home to many famous landmarks that are recognised throughout the world, and seeing them often forms a big part of a visit to the capital. This guide suggests just one way to see as much as possible in twenty-four hours.
Breakfast in the Park
Arguably the most famous attraction London has to offer is Buckingham Palace, so a good place to start would be Green Park,an attractive area that truly lives up to its name. The park is home to a number of deckchairs dotted around, which can be hired for a moderate fee and offer a great place to enjoy a quick breakfast on the go.
Of course, the main event is found on the other side of the park. Such are the photo opportunities available outside the Palace you can easily spend a good half hour here. Look out for the famous guards, and get the best vantage point from the raised platform around the nearby Victoria monument. Once you've had your fill of photographs, turn around and head across the road to get to your next destination - St. James's Park.
This park is a beautiful walk, packed full of wildlife in the form of large numbers of ducks, geese and squirrels. Eagle-eyed walkers may notice the park's most crowd pleasing residents, the pelicans, somewhere in the middle of the great lake. At the other end of the park are the various attractions of Westminster, so when you see the bridge going over the lake, cross it and aim for the far right exit from the park.

10 Famous Streets in London

Savile Row, a shopping street in LondonImage via Wikipedia
By James Riches
Just as London is famed for its many landmarks and attractions, so too is it home to a number of streets whose names are known across the globe. Whether it's because of their renowned shopping opportunities, illustrious theatres or even their use as a setting in an historic work of fiction, there are certain streets that will always attract visitors who come to London.
1, The Mall
As you might expect, some of London's most famous streets are those that lead to their most well-known attractions. The Mall is the stretch of road that leads from Trafalgar Square all the way to the world famous Buckingham Palace. Originally built to commemorate Lord Nelson's victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, these days The Mall is most famous as the finishing line of the London Marathon, as well as the site of the annual Trooping the Colour ceremony.
2, Whitehall
Leading up to the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, Whitehall is truly an iconic stretch of road. Home to the thought-provoking Cenotaph monument, which forms the centrepiece of Britain's yearly Remembrance Day services each November, it also leads onto an even more prominent street.

World's Most Exclusive Private Members' Clubs - Hurlingham Club, London

Hurlingham Club principal house. LondonImage by maesejose via Flickr
By James Man

Founded in 1869, the Hurlingham Club is a very popular sports club in Fulham, London, England. It sits on the banks of the River Thames in Fulham and the beautiful building is the centerpiece of a lush 42-acre plot. The look and feel of Hurlingham isn't very different than that of a lavish golf course. However, Hurlingham offers much more than simply golf.
Members have tennis courts, croquet, cricket, bowls, squash, and even swimming - indoor or outdoor - to keep them entertained. Apart from football, the club has every essential English sport covered. There's also a full gymnasium on the grounds, and members also participate in backgammon, bridge and chess matches.

The only way that an individual can gain membership into the club is to be recommended and then seconded by at least two currently full-time members at Hurlingham. Currently, the waiting list for membership is rather long, and the only exceptions made for additional members are children of current members, who receive preferential treatment over others. Currently, Hurlingham has over 10,000 members, and new members are expected to wait over 15 years to be accepted.
Frank Heathcote decided to promote pigeon shooting matches at Hurlingham in 1867 and decided to open up the club. To this day, the pigeon is still the club's official crest. The Hurlingham Club has managed to avoid the pitfalls of similar establishments. Instead of losing popularity, the sheer size of Hurlingham has enabled it to increase its membership over time. The many different features offered and various celebrities who frequent the club make it a big attraction in England.
The Hurlingham House is more like a palace. Solid bright white gigantic pillars are the first thing noticed on this spacious mansion, and the large porch and Victorian style architecture give it a historic look and feel.
Inside the house, many lavish bedrooms, bathrooms and dining areas make members as comfortable as can be. There are drawing rooms and television rooms indoors, as well as other areas for dining and casual relaxing. However, since it's a sports club, the lion's share of the action takes place outside.
All 42 acres of Hurlingham are well-kept. Beautiful purple, yellow and white flowers from the outlying garden match the bright green of the grass and the surrounding forestry perfectly. It's quite a serene setting for such an active atmosphere. The grass tennis courts are in abundance at Hurlingham, with over 40 to choose from. Famous tennis stars such as Rafael Nadal have stopped in to grace the courts at Hurlingham with their presence.
Various events are planned year-round in Hurlingham. The Bowls and Croquet in August, Salon Prive, 20/20 Triangular Cricket Match, Family Picnic and regular garden parties are all examples of events held on the club's grounds. Hurlingham is essentially about high-society, and most members are extremely well-to-do and have a taste for the finer things in life.
Visit the CasinoMan Blog for more articles and blogs about the lifestyle of the rich and opulant.

Covent Garden
Despite being dubbed as a century old market place, Covent Garden is home to the younger population and tourists. Modern shops, gourmet restaurants, street dining places, and several pubs now sprawl the area. Whether by day or night, the place is bustling with energy since jugglers, mimes, and buskers habitually perform in the streets all day long. The Covent Garden tube is just close by the market place.

London, England - St James's Park

Buckingham Palace in London, England. taken by...Image via Wikipedia

By Harry Preston Platinum Quality Author
Looking at the blossoming shrubs, romantic lake and undulating paths of St James's Park, it's difficult to imagine it as marshy grazing land for pigs, but that's just what it was before Henry VIII fenced it in to make a deer park in the 1530s.
The oldest of London's nine royal parks, St James's Park is a wonderful open space in which to relax and unwind in the heart of the capital. Take a deckchair for the afternoon: listen to the band that plays daily at lunchtime or in the early evening between June and August; tour with one of the royal gardeners; or go bird-watching. The park is home to pelicans and many types of duck and geese, as well as rarer visitors such as golden eyes or shovelers.
The park has been beloved by British kings and queens for 500 years. Surrounded by three royal palaces - Buckingham Palace, St James's and Westminster (now the Houses of Parliament) - it was their backyard. Elizabeth I danced and held masques and pageants here. James I kept a menagerie that included crocodiles and elephants, while Charles" dallied with his favourite mistress, Nell Gwyn.
Almost all of them played some part in shaping it but Charles 11 and George IV oversaw the biggest changes. Restored to the throne in 1660, Charles wanted to re-create the formal gardens he had seen while in exile in France.
A straight canal was laid down the centre, lined with avenues of trees. For the first time, the public was allowed to enjoy the park. In the 1820s it was given a makeover in the new naturalistic style, bringing it close to the place we know today: straight lines were replaced with winding paths and shrubberies, the canal made into a lake. It was part of a huge project that created many of London's best-known landmarks, including Regent's Park and Regent's Street, commissioned by the Prince Regent (later George IV).
The Mall, which runs along the north side of St James's, became an important ceremonial route in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when Britain still had an empire to rule and colonial subjects to impress. Carlton House Terrace, another Nash construction, was one of the most fashionable residential addresses in town until World War 11 when it was severely damaged. With the purchase of one of its 60-room houses for £58 million in 2006 by the Hinduja family, this tradition looks to be reviving. While the park looks good throughout the year, its colours are particularly delightful in the spring and summer. If you visit around Easter, there may be an Easter egg trail for children. In April it is the end point for the famous London Marathon. Occasionally you may happen upon other surprises, such as a 12m (40-foot) mechanical elephant, part of a French street theatre performance, The Sultan's Elephant, that was staged in the park for three days in 2006.
Top or tail your time in St James's Park with an exhibition or film at the trendy ICA (Institute for Contemporary Arts) on The Mall, the setting for many events of national celebration. Don't forget to stop by Horse Guards Parade on the park's eastern side, where the annual ceremonies of Trooping the Colour and Beating Retreat take place. Finally, treat yourself to a meal at Inn the Park, the park's distinctive eatery designed by Michael Hopkins.
